Beautiful Wampum Quahog shell and sterling silver earrings. Wampum shells are purple and white striped and found along the New England Coast. These earrings are made up of carved purple flower beads. They are accented with sterling silver and two more white and purple wampum beads. They dangle below French ear wires. All metal is 925 sterling silver.
Historically, Wampum was used by various Native American tribes, including the Iroquois and the Algonquin, as a form of currency and for ceremonial purposes, storytelling, and as a means of recording treaties and agreements. Once European settlers arrived in the Americas, wampum became the predominant form of currency in trade between Native Americans and Europeans, especially in the 17th century.
