This sterling silver pendant features a beautiful carved starfish in red and white spiny oyster shell. The carving has intricate details and beautiful colors. Accented with a slate blue piece of genuine sea glass. Both are set in a silver bezel and surrounded by silver sea shells, sand dollars, fish, and silver granules. The bail on the pendant is made up of 3 large spinning rings - great for fidgety fingers. The bail will fit small beaded necklaces or a chain (the matching beaded necklace shown in photos is sold separately). All metal is solid 925 sterling silver.
In ancient South American cultures, spiny oyster shells were more valuable than gold and silver. Only Shamans or elders were allowed to wear or use them. They are found in the warm waters along the Pacific coast and the Gulf of California. They are very difficult to harvest and polish which makes spiny oysters much sought after by collectors. Carved pieces are even more valuable.
Pendant dimensions: 35 x 45 mm (1-3/8 x 1-3/4 inch)
The pendant comes on an 18-inch chain. The beaded necklace shown in the photos is available separately.
